Working temperature: Based on GB/T 12706-2020 (the previous standard was GB/T 12706-2008), the new national standard further clarifies:
Cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation: The long-term working temperature can reach 90 ℃, and the maximum temperature for short circuit (≤ 5s) is 250 ℃.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation: Long term working temperature of 70 ℃, maximum temperature for short circuit (≤ 5s) of 160 ℃.
Laying requirements: The ambient temperature during laying should not be lower than 0 ℃, and the minimum bending radius requirement must be followed.
Practical tip: In the case of the same number of cores, the current carrying capacity of XLPE insulated cables is usually higher than that of PVC insulated cables. For example, in specific scenarios where the same current (such as 300A) is transmitted, using XLPE insulated cables may result in the use of conductors with smaller cross-sectional areas, which is beneficial for optimizing engineering costs and space.
